Production Music Wiki

FirstCom Music is an American production music library and distributor founded in 1980 by Jim Long. In 1985, the company became one of the first production music libraries to issue albums on CDs.

In May 1989, Jim Long initially agreed to sell his Jim Long Companies (then owner of FirstCom) to Olympia Broadcasting [1]. However, after Olympia was sued for fraud due to misrepresenting the financial status of a radio station it had purchased, Jim Long terminated the deal in September of the same year.[2]

One year later, FirstCom (along with other companies owned by Long) was ultimately acquired by Zomba Music Group [3]. In 2002, BMG purchased Zomba and amalgamated their production division to create the BMG Zomba Production Music, which FirstCom is still a part of. BMG Zomba Production Music was eventually sold to Universal Publishing Production Music.

On July 12, 2021, FirstCom Music was folded into Universal Production Music's US branch.
