Extreme Music is a British production music library and distributor founded in 1997 by Russell Emanuel and Dolph Taylor.
History[]
Extreme Music was founded in London by Russell Emanuel and Dolph Taylor in 1997.
It was acquired by Viacom in August 2005, and in 2008 it was acquired by Sony/ATV Music Publishing.
In January 2013, Extreme introduced Customix, a web application created specifically for music supervisors to quickly customize songs from its library.[1]
In October 2020, Sony/ATV has announced that it is merging its two production music divisions – Extreme Music and EMI Production Music (now known as KPM Music) – into one global operation, to be led by Russell Emanuel.[2]
On November 10, 2022, it was announced that Extreme Music will be merging its website with KPM Music in January 2023. However, the process was postponed until May 10, 2023, when the KPM catalog became available on Extreme's site globally, excluding North America, due to the libraries being still distributed in these territories by Associated Production Music. In France, Extreme started offering KPM libraries only from April 1, 2025 due to these rights being held by Montmorency Music Agency until then.
